Do I need any experience?

All of our workshops are beginner-friendly. We do offer different skill levels in our Wheel Throwing Courses.

What should I wear?

We always recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting a bit messy. Our Pottery Wheel Workshops are definitely more messy than anything else, however you still work with clay, water and paint in our Hand Building and Ceramic Painting workshops too. Please bring your own apron and towel if possible.

Do you provide aprons?

Yes, we do provide aprons and cloths, however it is always a good idea to please bring your own apron too.

What will the class structure be?

We always start our Wheel Throwing and Hand Building Workshops with a demonstration from our experienced teacher. You will then have time to be creative and have a go at making your own masterpieces. This will be the majority of the session. At the end of your workshop you will choose what colour you want your items to be glazed in. For those doing the Wheel Throwing Workshop, the last part of the class will also involve cleaning your tools and pottery wheel. We aim to provide a fun and educational experience in all of our workshops.

What can I make?

For the most part, you can make anything you can think of. The pottery wheel limits you to cylindrical items eg. cups, bowls, plates and vases, whilst hand building techniques allow you to make much more organic shapes eg. pinch pots, platters and coil forms.

What colours do you offer?

We currently have a mint or white glaze available for our Pottery Wheel and Hand Building Workshops. Hand Building students can also choose to paint their items and then receive a clear glaze. Term students have much more options and can layer multiple glazes to create unique effects.

What items do you have in the Ceramic Painting Activity?

We stock this activity with hand-made, pre-bisqued items that range in price categories depending on their size and detail. These can include small trinket dishes, pots and bowls, medium sized jugs and textured vases, as well as mugs and large dinner plates. These items are one of a kind and can vary quite often.

Do you have a firing service?

Yes! We can help fire your pieces at bisque (1000C), mid-fire (1220C) or stoneware (1280C). Please only drop off your items when they are fully dry and named.

Where should I park?

There is unlimited parking in Bentleigh Station and behind Aldi and Coles. Don’t drive? We are also less than 100m from Bentleigh Station and the 703 bus.
