Firing Service Terms & Conditions

To ensure the safety of your pieces, the works of others, our staff and to protect our kilns and kiln furniture, please abide by the following guidelines. 

Your responsibilities are to ensure

● That all pieces are clearly stamped or signed with your makers mark.

● Your work is 100% bone dry, we will not accept wet greenware.

● Your pieces do not contain any foreign materials (e.g metal, wood, etc). Newspaper/paper is acceptable.

● The bottom 5mm of your pieces and the bases are unglazed (underglaze is acceptable).

● That the clay you have used is suitable for the temperature you have chosen to fire at.

● That the glaze you have used suits the clay body and the temperature you have chosen to fire at.

● You provide kiln cookies/sitters for pieces with known runny glaze or speckled clay eg. BRT. Any pieces with especially thick glaze will be rejected unless appropriate kiln cookies are provided. Any MAYCO or AMACO glazes need to be accompanied with a cookie/sitter to avoid any possible glaze drips. 

● That solid work is hollowed out (to avoid exploding) and that walls are not excessively thick (over 12mm).

● That you collect your work within two weeks of firing completion. Please bring in your own packaging and boxes when collecting your work. Any work left at Cones Studio beyond this will be discarded or repurposed.

We reserve the right to refuse kiln service if the above guidelines are not adhered to.

● Professional firing and respectful handling of your work.

Important information

● Whilst we ensure the utmost care is taken in handling and firing your works, Cones Studio is not responsible for any breakages, warping, exploding, cracks and unexpected glaze behaviours or mishaps that occur during a firing.

Damages fee

● If damage is caused to a kiln shelf by your work, there will be a cleaning fee dependant on the size of damage.

5cm radius = $10

6-19cm radius = $25

20cm+ = $50

If a kiln shelf is damaged to the point where it cannot be used, you will be charged for the cost of replacing the shelf. If your work damages the interior of the kiln, you are required to for the cost of repairs to the kiln.
